Vitamin E is the collective name for a set of 8 related α-, β-, γ-, and δ-tocopherols and the corresponding four tocotrienols, which are fat-soluble vitamins with antioxidant properties. It has been regarded as an indispensible vitamin to sustain the regular metabolic functions in human body, and playing a very important role in aspect of anti-cancer、anti-aging and immune system enhancement, etc. The deficiency of Vitamin E would lead to hair loss, muscular dystrophies, anemia or other diseases relate to central nervous system abnormal.

The vitamin E can be classified to Natural Vitamin E and Synthetic Vitamin E by judging their sources. The natural Vitamin E are better in its property of biological activity, antioxidant and safety than that of synthetic Vitamin E.

 

The main molecular structure of tocopherol (TP, T1) and tocotrienol (TT ,T3) are the same,  and their differences are expressed by their different side chain, which the tocopherol is saturated while the tocotrienol is unsaturated. The food sources of tocopherol are coming from vegetable oil ( like soybean, rape). The tocotrienols are rich in palm oil, rice bran oil, etc. only palm oil shares the highest content.
More and more studies show that tocotrienol has an obvious advantage than tocopherol in fighting free radicals, lowering cholesterol and reducing blood-lipid. Moreover, the unsaturated fatty acid side chain ofα-TT makes it penetrate into the saturated fat layer more effectively so that it could be a practical potential candidate for cosmetics.
